Cabinet body approves 12 projects including Rooppur nuke plant

The Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase approved a total of 12 proposals involving a cost of Tk 2,292 crore including establishment and construction of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.

The meeting of purchase committee was held on Wednesday at the conference room of the cabinet division with Finance Minister AMA Muhith in the chair.

Members of the committee, senior secretary of Cabinet Division and secretaries of other concerned ministries were present in the meeting.

Emerging from the meeting, Additional Secretary of the Cabinet Division Maksudur Rahman Patwary told the press that approval has been given to the proposal for completing the additional agreement, No. 2 of the 3rd agreement with the contractor farm ‘Russian Federation Atomstroy Export’ under the project of ‘ Construction of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant’ (1st Phase). A total of Tk 1,482 crore will be spent for this project.

Another proposal of the same ministry received nod of the Cabinet body to sign 4th agreement with the same contractor to purchase the service and works for the same project at a cost of $45 million (equivalent to Tk 360 crore).

Besides, the financial proposal of the lowest bidder for building pipeline, fittings purchase etc for the Tk 163.46 crore ‘Construction of Moheshkhali Anowara Gas Transmission Pipeline’ project under the Gas Transmission Company Ltd (GTCL) was approved.

The Cabinet body approved a Power Ministry`s proposal allow private firm Edisun-Power Point & Haor Bangla-Korea Green Energy to set up a 32 MW peak solar park in Dharmapasa Upazila of Sunamganj district. The state-owned PDB will purchase electricity from the park for next 20 years at a tariff of US 17 cents per kilowatt hour.

Another proposal of the same ministry received approval of the Cabinet body to allow another private firm Hetat-Ditrolic-IFDC Solar Consortium to set up a 50 MW (AC) solar park at Sutiyakhali of Gowripur upazila of the Mymensing district. The state-owned PDB will purchase electricity for 20 years at the same tariff of US 17 cents per kilowatt hour peak.

The Power Ministry`s proposal to appoint consultant for its three power projects also received the nod. A foreign consortium obtained the job at a contract value of 33.72 crore for the three projects-Baghabari 100-150 MW combined cycle, Shahjibazar 70-100 MW, and Sylhet 159-225 MW combined cycle power plant.

The committee approved a proposal of the Rural Electrification Board (REB) for procurement of single phase metre for its 1.8 lakh consumers electrification project. Another proposal of the same organization to appoint a consultant for increase the distribution system also received the nod of the cabinet body.
