State-owned Eastern Refinery Ltd (ERL), in collaboration with Fire Service and Civil Defence, organised a fire-fighting exercise at its installation at Patenga in Chittagong on March 28.
It was held to take swift, effective and concerted efforts in case of fire incidents, a press release of ERL said.
Seventeen members of fire service department with four fire-fighting vehicles as well as ERL staff with rapid intervention vehicles (RIV) took part in the exercise.
ERL Managing Director Gazi Md Ali Afzal and other senior officials inspected the exercise, coordinated by ERL deputy general manager (inspection and safety) Md Rashed Kausar.
ERL, the country`s lone state-owned fuel refinery, is vulnerable to fire incidents because of its refinery system and bulk storage of oil.
So it needs well-trained fire-fighting personnel and latest equipments to avert any untoward incident, said officials.
