Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) will start constructing 132 kV electricity transmission line from Ishawrdi of Pabna to Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.
PGCB will erect that line to supply electricity to facilitate the ongoing construction works of the nuclear power plant.
On April 18, PGCB signed a contract with Chinese ZTT and Sinotech both of which will form a joint venture company to complete the transmission line.
As per the contract, ZTT-Sinotech Company will construct 7 kilometer long steel-pole line. After the construction of the transmission line, the 132 kV line will be handed over to PGCB. The price of the contract is nearly Tk 32 crore.
The finance for the project will come from the fund for the transmission line construction fund for Rooppur nuclear power plant.
Md Ashraf Hossain, Company Secretary of PGCB and Chen Zhiguang, Chief Representative of ZTT signed in the contract.
Masum-Al-Beruni, Managing Director of PGCB, Qu Zhi, Vice-President of ZTT Group, Chowdhury Alamgir Hossain, Executive Director (P&D) of PGCB, Paresh Chandra Roy, Executive Director (Finance) of PGCB and Farid Uddin Ahmed Chief Engineer (Project) of PGCB were present at the signing ceremony among others.
On December 25, 2015, Bangladesh and Russia have signed a general contract for the construction and commissioning of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Pabna at a cost of $12.65 billion.
Of the two-unit power plant with 1,200MW capacity each, the first unit is expected to begin operating by 2023 and the second unit by 2024.
