Finance Minister AMA Muhith has said Atomstroyexport, the main contractor of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project wanted one year extension of preparatory work for power plant.
During a meeting with Finance Minister AMA Muhit on Wednesday at his secretariat office, the Russian delegation asked for this extension.
It is to be noted that because of the appointment of a sub-standard Russian contractor named Goldenberg, the project work get delayed and eventually stopped.
After the meeting with the Russian delegation, the Finance Minister told the journalists that though the preparatory work of the plant was supposed to finish by 2016, but now it will take upto 2017 to finish the work.
The main construction work of the plant will start in 2018 and it will be finished by 2024, informed the Finance Minister.
He told the journalists that as the latest technology will be used, the cost of the plant will be higher than the usual cost.
Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) is going to implement the project.
BAEC signed a $12.65 billion general contract with Russian contractor Atomstroyexport in December 25, last year.
An official from BAEC told energynewsbd.com that Atomstroyexport has already cancelled contract with Goldenberg because of its sub standard performance.
An eight member delegation team of State Corporation, Rosatom of Russian Federation headed by Deputy Director General Nikolai Spasskiy met with Finance Minister. Alexander A Nikolaev, Russian ambassador to Bangladesh was also in the delegation.
