The government has appointed Md Mozammel Haque and Kazi Obaidul Awal as the two members of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority (BAERA).
The appointments of the two members were made on December 15 with the issuance of two government circulars.
With these appointments, BAERA became a full-fledged regulatory authority.
In the circulars, it was written that Md Mozammel Haque, a former chairman of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) and Kazi Obaidul Awal, a former Chief Engineer of the BAEC have been made as the members of BAERA in contract basis for the next three years from the joining date under the condition that they would resign themselves from any current occupation with any organisation.
The circular mentioned that the condition of the appointments will be fixed with appropriate contract paper.
After the enactment of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Act in 2012, the government had formed BAERA. As per the act, BAERA is supposed to have one chairman and four members. So far, it had appointment one chairman and two members.
The issue of establishing BAERA came to limelight after the Awami League government took the plan of establishing Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in 2009.
