20 Bangladeshi students to get Russian scholarship for higher education in nuclear engineering

This year, at least 20 students from Bangladesh will receive scholarship for higher education in Russia in the field of nuclear engineering.

The scholarships are given under the quotas of Russia’s state nuclear power corporation ROSATOM. This was informed by Alexander Demin, Director of the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Dhaka, said a press release.

Bangladeshi students will study in some major universities, including National Research Nuclear University MEPhI in Moscow and in Obninsk branch of National Research Nuclear University "Moscow Engineering Physics Institute" (NRNU MEPhI).

The education program will mainly focus on the specialised field "Nuclear Power Plants: Design, Operation and Engineering".

"Tests in mathematics and physics, as well as interviews of the applicants were conducted in Dhaka in cooperation with ROSATOM State Atomic Energy Corporation, which is implementing the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Bangladesh. Nearly 100 students were primarily selected for the selection test. Out of them, at least 20 students will be selected for bachelor and masters programs." said Demin.

"Currently about 50 Bangladeshi students are studying in MEPhI. The first batch is graduating next year," he added.

Demin further informed that this year over 60 students from Bangladesh will go to Russia for higher education in medicine, agriculture, journalism, fine arts and other fields.
